DEPARTMENT OF PAEDIATRICS
We are a dynamic and vibrant department committed to the care of the children right from new-born period to early adolescence.
Scope of Paediatric services:
- Newborn care
- Neonatology
- SNCU
- General Pediatrics
- Early Adolescence
- The care of the neonatal patient is in consonance with the National Neonatology Forum standards.
- The doctors, nurses and other staff associated with children care are qualified and
experienced. - Provisions made for special care of children are: –
- Provision of side railings to prevent fall from beds
- Use of identification band
- Provision of heating facility for water etc.
- Provision of round the clock nursing service.
- Allowing mother & father inside the Paediatric ICU at once a day or as and when need to see briefing about each patient after rounds in the ICU-Right to know about the treatment status of babies satisfied.
- Detailed nutritional, growth, psychosocial and immunization assessments are included in the patient assessment.

The department runs ambulatory general paediatrics OP services daily in the forenoon (8am- 1pm).
Immunization Clinics
- Immunizations are conducted on every Wednesdays & Saturdays (9am-1pm) in the Post Partum Unit ground floor of Blood Centre.
- Vaccine/Preventable diseases Surveillance including AFP and MR Surveillance
- Field Activities
Children’s ward
15 bedded with 2 beds in High Dependency Unit. Phototherapy Services available in Maternity Ward,Paywards, SNCU and Post surgical Ward.
SNCU (Special New Born Care Unit)
Scope of service:
- Level II B service
- 20 Bedded
- Care of New Born Neonate upto 28 days
- 9 Phototherapy Units
- Incubator care for Preterm/Low birth weight babies
- 2 CPAP Machines
- Metabolic screening of Neonate for Congenital Hypothyroidism, Galactosemia, Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia,G6PD Deficiency
- Comprehensive New Born Screening (VBD, CHDS) conducting in DEIC centre.
- New born Resuscitation
- Preterm (34 weeks onwards) and VLBW and ELBW babies are managed here.
- Newborn Stabilization Unit (NBSU) is available in Labour room and Operation theatre.
