Cardio Thoracic & Vascular Surgery
Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, General Hospital (GH), Ernakulam has been functional since December 2021. It is the first Department of its kind in the whole of India to perform open heart surgery in a state-run district hospital. Within a short span of time the Department could perform state of the art operations like Off pump coronary artery bypass routinely. The CTVS Team at GH, Ernakulam have started performing advanced cardiac work including Mitral valve repairs and minimally invasive valve and Bypass operations as well. The CTVS department provides quality cardiac care to the poor and under-privileged patients of Ernakulam and adjacent districts at free of cost utilizing the available Government schemes.
The Government of Kerala has been instrumental in setting up the CTVS services in GH, Ernakulam and has provided modern infrastructure, advanced equipment and technical support with trained personnel for the smooth everyday conduct of open-heart procedures in the Department.
